Among the prestigious Sienese hills just a short walk from Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino is a small medieval castle, Torrita di Siena, where every year the last weekend of June takes place one of the most important Italian blues festival: Torrita Blues Festival.
Created in 1989 by a group of fellow enthusiasts of blues, the festival has grown a lot these 21 years, becoming an annual event anticipated by thousands of fans. Among the 200 artists who participated in Torrita Blues only remember some of the most significant such as Taj Mahal, John Mayall, Robben Ford, Roy Rogers, Bettye Lavette, Popa Chubby, Canned Heat, Luther Allison, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Tom Principato.
There are many initiatives put forward by the association in recent years: the twinning with New Orleans at the Torrita Blues 2006, joining the Blues Foundation of Memphis (USA) which are part of the most important Blues Association in the world , Effect Blues, dedicated to the Italian blues band.
That of 2010 promises to be one of the issues among the largest of Torrita Blues saw the quality and importance of the names on the bill. One among them the legendary Peter Green, guitarist and historic leader of Fleetwood Mac, author of the famous "Black Magic Woman" that will be in Italy on the occasion of Torrita Blues Festival.
Torrita Blues 2010 The program begins Friday, June 25th with two great names on the bill: Eugene Hideaway Bridges and Eric Sardinas. Saturday, June 26 begins with 19th Street Red to give space to the legendary Peter Green: The evening ends with a sparkling boogie band that will make the square dance till late night. The blues festival will be held as usual in Torrita di Siena in the beautiful Piazza Matteotti, surrounded by medieval walls and the great tower of the town overlooking the stage.
