Another event of great artistic importance in the land of Siena, hosted at the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex, "Federico Barocci (1535-1612). The charm of color. A lesson for two centuries", in progress from 11 October to 2010 January 10.
The initiative by Claudio Pizzorusso Alessandra Giannotti offers to the visitors the opportunity to learn more about the art of the painter from Urbino Federico Barocci (1535-1612), certainly not popular today as it was in his era, when his genius was rightly celebrated as much as that of his great contemporaries such as Raphael, Michelangelo, Titian and Correggio.
Therefore deserves to be rediscovered the great lesson which has greatly influenced the Italian and European art of painting over time from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, particularly with regard to the use of light and color. They come from prestigious Italian museums (Florence, Rome, Assisi) and international (London, Paris, Vienna) thirty-four masterpieces of Barocci, some really beautiful, because of a careful restoration work done for the occasion.
Part of the exhibition is dedicated to artists who were inspired by style of Barocci, and yet another one to Sienese painters who have learned and loved his great lesson.
Hours: daily, including holidays, from 10.30am to 7.30pm.
