2012 Unusual itineraries discovering Siena

On March, Saturday 17th, 2012 the itinerary includes a visit to San Galgano's places, to the abbey founded in honor of the monk, with the famous sword which was out into a stone back in 1180. Galagano was a young, fierce knight, who led his life between battles and fun days, until he converted. The sword is the symbol of his conversion, the beginning of a new, holy life. The middle ages are visible inside the gothic abbey in the valley Val di Merse, which was abandoned by the monks during the 15th century, because they moved to the town. The mystery of this sword recalls anyway King Arthur's legend. According to some scholars there is also a sort of affinity between the name Galgano and Sir Gawain, one of the legendary knights of the round table. The meeting is at 15.00 p.m.in Via Roma, in front of the church del Santuccio. The same group organizes, on March 25th, 2012, a different itinerary, leading you through the flavors of the city. The good food is an essential part of Siena's charm and culture, and – most of all – the excellent wine! You can't miss this wine trail along the streets of Siena, with many sightseeing points, tastings and samplings. The meeting is at 10,15 a.m. in front of the hospital Santa Maria della Scala.
