Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is a real evergreen, a moment of reflection on love, a feeling which unites and parts the two main characters. Romeo and Juliet will be on stage on February 28th, 2012 at the dei Rinnovati theatre in Siena, directed by Serena Sinigaglia.
The play has a modern setting, but the plot is always about feelings and youth. The main characters are as innocent as their age can be, and they want to discover true love, which represents the whole world to their eyes. Sinigaglia's message is like Shakespeare's one, just the setting is different, it is contemporary, but the tenderness and somehow the comical accent of every first love is the same. According to the director: "our Romeo and Juliet is this, an anthem to life, shouted from the top of the lunges, a game of passion and dreams, showing the reckless joy of young people who have nothing to lose". The actors come from a young acting company (ATIR Associazione Teatro Indipendente per la Ricerca), supported by students of Paolo Grassi's school, performing as the men belonging to the 2 rival families.
The dei Rinnovati theatre in Siena is committed in producing plays not only in Siena, and today it is one of the most important theaters in Tuscany, with plays for every audience and age, while in August it usually hosts the musical events included in the "Settimana Musicale Chigiana".
