The event La Valle del Gigante Bianco, dedicated to the Chianina cow, celebrates its 7th birthday. The Chianina cow is the result of a long selection, made by Prof. Ezio Marchi, in the original area of Valdichiana.
The aim of the eventi s to know and enhance the Chianina breed, the world's biggest cow, whose origins date back to over 2000 years ago. Already Plinius the older and other Latin authors wrote about it (Bos magnus et albus) and in that time it was mainly used as a working animal by Romans and Etruscans: thanks to the white coat it was also used for triumphal parades and on the occasions of sacrifices to Gods.
During the event ther will be meetings, conferences, art shows, photo shows, music and folk shows, games for children, animal fairs,a market with typical products, cutting tests, cooking show, and many occasions to try the real Chianina meat IGP Vitellone Bianco. Many old recipes will be prepared with this meat, together with other local products and for every course there will be a different wine (Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti); prize giving ceremonies will take place too, among the prizes we can mention the award "La Valle del Gigante Bianco" given to the winner of the cooking contest.
La Valle del Gigante Biancoincludes many events where you can try this Chianina meat, like the dinners called "Chianina in tavola", or the "Cibo di chianina di strada", i.e. guided tastings of IGP Chianina meat.
